Physical Education Curriculum Policy
At Wybunbury Delves we aim to 'light the spark for a love of learning and of life' and believe Physical Education is a subject which offers the very best opportunities to achieve this. We adopt SPARK approach to learning to in order to learn practically and challenge children to increase their skills and knowledge while learning resilience. The spirituality in PE is felt by some children in the sensation of physical activity or in collaborative learning as a team.
Why do we teach P.E.?
The term 'Physical Education' encompasses a range of areas across both Sports and Healthy Living.
Physical Education lessons offer our children the opportunity to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We would like our children to be equipped with the variety of fundamental skills needed to effectively compete, either as part of a team, or individually. We offer, through the Sports Partnership, the opportunity to participate in competitions, which help to build character and embed values such as fairness and respect.
Physical Education provides our children with the opportunity to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness and to recognise how choices made in other areas, such as diet, can affect this.

EYFS Area: Physical Development
By the end of Reception children should:
Moving and handling: children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.
Health and self-care: children know the importance for good health of physical exercise, and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe. They manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including dressing and going to the toilet independently.

Curriculum & School Organisation
The National Curriculum is used as the basis for the planning of pupil's entitlement, subject coverage and progression in P.E. Where the school uses Sportscape coaches they follow their set planning which is quality assured through Sportscape management. The school also has other schemes, such as Val Sabin and the new scheme of work for Cheshire provided through our sports partnership (CNSSP), to support teachers. P.E. is currently taught, by specialist coaches, for two hours in KS2 and one hour in KS1. Early years are teacher taught.
Teaching and Learning style
In lessons, the emphasis is on having fun whilst learning essential, fundamental skills. Towards the end of each half term children are given an opportunity to practice their skills in level 1 (Intra school) competitions.
We recognise that there are a range of abilities throughout each class and we seek to provide the opportunities for all children to succeed, by matching the task to the ability of the child.
Features of Progression
To ensure children make progress in Physical Education, teaching should promote opportunities for them, as they move through the Key Stage, to progress:
Teachers complete ongoing assessment each term through methods they deem to be most appropriate; this could be tick sheets, videos and photos of children working and much more. Records of assessment are filed in each year groups Cohort Curriculum file. This file is reviewed by the PE co-ordinator annually.
Monitoring, review and evaluation
Monitoring of the standards of work and the quality of teaching is the responsibility of the P.E. subject leader and Sportscape management. The work of the MFL Subject Leader also involves supporting colleagues in the teaching of French (providing CPD opportunities), being informed about current developments in the subject, and providing a strategic lead and direction for the subject in the school.
The subject leader is responsible for maintaining resources in school.
