Year 3 weekly news
This week in literacy, year 3 have written biographies. We used our own research and our imagination to write a biography about a famous explorer. We made sure our work was written in time order, in the third person and the past tense. We used time phrases to move the story of our explorer's life along and used a checklist to be sure our writing contained all the right features. We've impressed Miss Lake again with our writing skills. Next week, we will begin work on writing a survival guide for life on a desert island!
In numeracy, we've continued to enjoy using Numicon to support our work on fractions. We can now count in halves and quarters, find fractions of amounts and some of us can find fractions which are equal to a half, a third and a quarter. Some of us used Numicon to reinforce work on number bonds too. What a lot of learning!
In our afternoons, we have had some study work catch up time and completed jobs such as our front covers, work on coastal erosion, balanced arguments and portraits. We've also enjoyed learning a new singing playgrounds song and designed our own fitness circuits in P.E. We are a busy bunch!
In R.E. tomorrow, we will consider 'The water of Life' which will be our theme for worship in a few weeks. We will prepare a year 3 worship to share with school later in the term and every child will have the chance to take part.
In French, we will continue our work on 'les couleurs' and play some games to reinforce our vocab work.
Well done to all the children who took part in the Mardi Gras mask making competition. Your masks were fantastic. Congratulations to the year 3 winner, Maisie.
Over the weekend, I will familiarise myself with our new online maths homework tool, mymaths. Next week, all children will receive their log in details and will be able to enjoy their maths homework using this new resource. There are also games available for them to play to enhance their key skills. I hope they enjoy this new way of completing their homework.
