Year 3 Powwow celebration
Hello year 3 children and parents.
Our Powwow celebration day is now set for Tuesday 15th July. This is an exciting end of year celebration for us all to enjoy.
You have been busy making suggestions of how you would like the day to be planned with ideas including quizzes, writing words to a song for each tribe, Native American Indian children's games, learning about numbers in Native languages, a fashion show of our regalia and headdresses (with prizes), treasure hunts, making necklaces, sketching the people of our tribes etc. etc. etc. Your ideas have been fantastic and I will do my best to make sure there are a range of activities for all.
We will also have a picnic lunch on the school field and I have already asked you to think about how you could link the food you bring to Native Americans (a tepee cake was one idea — sounds lovely!).
Don't forget, you are invited to come into school on this day wearing your regalia and headdresses.
We already have one tepee in school and I know that someone has organised another which will look amazing. If there are any more tepee tents available, this would only add to the authentic feel of our powwow so please do let me know.
There is a reserve day (the following day) just in case the weather is not on our side but I am very hopeful that we can enjoy this special treat on Tuesday 15th. More sun dances please!!
I will send out a reminder letter nearer to the time with more details but for now I hope you are busy planning and can feel the excitement building....
