Year 2 News
Our first week back has been full of singing, study work and outdoor learning.
In Numeracy we have been looking at the divide sign ÷ and we decided how it is the same and different to the ½ and the ¼ fraction symbols. This has helped us to recap on halving and move onto using different strategies to quarter objects and numbers. Lots of children are beginning to use an efficient strategy for quartering — to halve and halve again, which is great to see.
On Tuesday we worked as a super class team to complete lots of Numeracy activities outside. We had fun using natural resources to count, calculate and visualise symmetrical pictures. The teachers were also involved in a session after school and we had just as much fun too!
In Literacy we have been completing quiet reading tasks on our own. This poem will get you thinking about our Literacy work next week. Can you predict what we might be doing?
To all of you who crawl and creep,
Who buzz and chirp and hoot and peep,
Who wake at dusk and throw off sleep:
Welcome to the night.
Our Roman Study work has given us the opportunity to create our own timeline and plan a Roman fresco based on the story of Boudicca. We are buzzing about singing a new song Buh, Buh, Buh Buh Boudicca! We have booked our Roman visit to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester. We are planning to visit on Thursday 3rd July. Letters with full details will be out early next week.
Our learning log book basket is looking full, and this shows that you have been very busy on your Roman task over the half term holidays. We have had lots of interesting armour brought in too. If you haven't had chance to share your work this week, we will look forward to seeing it next week.
In RE we are getting to know the story of Joseph and have begun to get 'hooked in' by making our own art straw Joseph puppet.
As you read at home this weekend, think about having a head start on a reading challenge that has been mentioned in class today. Have a lovely weekend.
