Y5 Welcome back!
It was great to see everyone back after the half term break, refreshed and ready for this next half term's Study Work.
We started today by sharing our fantastic Learning Log homework. What a lot of brilliant garden designers you are! Each Secret garden was unique and it was lovely to see what you felt was important in your garden design and models.
This is Keelie's garden, and like Orlanda's, Keelie has grown all her greenery and made all the structures in it too!
Like Sam, Tommy and Owen's gardens, Lucas wanted to create a garden to play in and so he has included a zip wire, a water slide and also a candy tree!
We had a great discussion about 3D printing and were fascinated by Orlanda's fountain which she made through this technique with the help of her dad. If you'd like to look at the Secret Gardens designs, I'm more than happy for you to pop in and take a peep!
This week we've started to look at multiplication using the grid method and we are also exploring simple strategies for calculating multiplications like 36 x 50 and 16 x 25 in our heads!!
As it is such a short week, we are focussing our writing on sentence precision, to ensure we're writing accurately. To practice, we are writing short fact files on British garden birds that we have researched. Our spelling focus this week are the prefixes mis- and dis- and some children are working on -dge.
We spent some time outside this afternoon, looking at our outdoor environment and have come up with a list for ways we think we can improve it. We are going to action plan and risk assess the activities we will be undertaking in the next few weeks. Please can we have a change of footwear in school next week — there may be a request for tools that we can borrow!
While we were outside, we stopped at the pond area to see if our bird feeders were having an impact. Within 5 minutes we saw had already see two long-tail tits, a blue tit and a family flock of sparrows!
PC Nick gave us a talk about Railway Safety! Do talk to your child at home about it!
Lucas was awarded Sportscape's gold medal for being Sports Star of the week! Well done, Lucas! We love the new haircut, too, Lucas!
Mrs Taylor will start a new unit of work this Friday, with the unit preparing the children for Easter.
And then to the week end! Enjoy!
