Welcome Back Year 4

Home » News » Welcome Back Year 4

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome back to our last term together! I cannot believe we are now two thirds of the way through Year 4; isn't the year going quickly! I hope our Summer Term will be fun, exciting and packed full of interesting facts and learning. So what will we be learning this term? We will be learning about the Tudors. The Tudors are one of Britain's most famous royal families and lots of our work will concentrate on finding out about who the Tudor monarchs were. We will also be looking at the life of the rich and poor during the Tudor era. To find out more about the topics we will be looking at, please read the Holistic Plan. This term, I hope to take us into Nantwich to see Tudor buildings and visit the Nantwich Museum. We will also hopefully be visiting either Tatton Park or Little Morton Hall.

During the Tudor era, a very important event happened. It was called the Reformation (we will be finding out about this during the term). During the Reformation, people kept secrets, disobeyed the king and committed treason! The book we will be reading is called Treason and it is by Berlie Doherty. It is a beautifully descriptive book that describes life in Tudor England. In the book we will meet William Montague, a young boy who comes from a noble family. We follow him on his journey to Court and learn about the problems the Reformation creates for him and his family. If you would like to bring in a book to read with us during class read, you are more than welcome too. However, please do not read ahead at home. This is for two reasons. First of all, and most importantly, I don't want you to finish the book before we do in class! Secondly, the book is full of beautiful description. However, it describes every aspect of life in Tudor England, including Newgate Prison, and some children may not like some of the scenes that are described. Therefore, only suitable scenes describing the prison and prisoners will be read out during story times.

There will be a few changes to our time table again because we are no longer going swimming. This means that our Times Tables Test and Spellings Test will once again be on a Wednesday. New spellings and Maths Homework will be handed out every Wednesday. The children will also continue to have Learning Log homework every fortnight. The rest of the timetable will remain the same: Brass Instrument Lesson on a Tuesday and P.E on Monday afternoon. Please make sure you have your kit and your instrument in on the correct days.

Hope you're looking forward to this term as much as I am,
Miss Pennance
