Our week in Year 1

Home » News » Our week in Year 1

This week, we have been learning all about Wybunbury! We have researched about Wybunbury church tower and asked Mrs Brownell, the keeper of the tower keys, lots of questions, written by the children. We have found lots of interesting things out and will be thinking about how we can put all of our information into a leaflet next week. Mrs Brownell has already asked if our leaflets can be put on display in the church tower and we are hoping that the post office will display them too! We have been thinking about what words we can use to persuade people to visit Wybunbury and have been trying to improve our sentences when writing. In the afternoons, we have started to put together maps of the classroom, using pictures and drawings. The children worked very hard on this, trying to see how the classroom looked from a 'bird's eye view'. We also found the school, using Google Maps and Google Earth, starting with a view of the world and zooming right in to the school. The children really enjoyed this activity. Click here (street view or satellite view) to try this at home. Please see your email for homework details, linked to our map/Wybunbury work this week.

Our Andy Warhol art work is mostly up around the classroom now, it has been lovely to hear the children sharing facts about him and seeing them being inspired to draw and paint/colour in this style in other activities and at home.

We also really enjoyed the visit from a real life author Charlotte Middleton on Thursday where the children showed brilliant listening skills and asked her questions about the stories. They were really entertaining stories based around the guinea pig "Christopher Nibbles". We even shared with Charlotte some of our stories we have written from our work last term based around the zoo. She was very impressed!
