Our First Week in Year 1
What a lovely first few days we have had!
We have read our story 'The Paper Dolls' by Julia Donaldson and started our learning based around the story. We have designed and made our very own paper dolls and today, the children were excited to see the dolls had already started their own adventure and had jumped on to the classroom wall! We have super hero paper dolls, stripey paper dolls, monster paper dolls and teddy bears! The children came up with great names for them too!
This term, we will be enjoying reading books by Julia Donaldson. The children have found out that she has written nearly 200 books and are now on a mission to read as many as we can find! In class, we have read The Paper Dolls, The Snail and the Whale and today, we enjoyed Charlie Cook and his Favourite Book. Each time we read a book we are adding the name to our display so we can see how many we have read. Children, what is your favourite book so far and why? If you have any Julia Donaldson books at home please feel free to bring them into school and we can enjoy them as a class.
We have also been on a nature hunt to find things to make an alphabet strip to help us with our writing. We had fun making the letters and they will form part of our display to help with letter recognition and formation.
The children have changed their books today. A number of children also asked if they could take a paper doll home to make at home so one has been sent home with your child. This is not homework but just for enjoyment if they wish to make it. Children, feel free to bring them back into school to share in show and tell if you wish!
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
