Interfaith week in year 3
This week we have celebrated Interfaith week in school. The focus was a global dimension. In year 3, we took the opportunity to link this to our topic and thought about the message 'God's earth is a gift on trust'.
We began by thinking about this message and in Sam's words: This means that God gave us the earth with the promise that we would look after it.
We thought about all the amazing creatures in our oceans and how lack of care with litter might affect them. We watched a video which showed just what damage this could do. Then we thought about the impact this might have on people around the world when we discovered that winds and ocean currents could send this litter to just about anywhere and cause pollution on a large scale. We realised that this might affect people's lives if they depended on the ocean for their living. We looked at maps and atlases and discussed how low level islands might flood.
We decided that we could make a difference and designed posters to encourage people not to drop litter. Next week, we will write our own messages and mottos about the world God gave us.
In Literacy, we completed our log book writing. Miss Lake said this was the best writing we had ever done! Mrs Casserley popped in to have a look at our work and congratulated us on the results.
In maths, we used systems to solve problems and discovered that by working logically we could find patterns to help us find answers. We did a brilliant job of this.
Today, we started work on our study work book front covers and had a great time creating patterns and texture with colours. They will become a collage of a coral reef.
Just a quick note to say the children's learning log homework books should have come home tonight. They contain a literacy based homework due in on the first Friday after half term and a science/design and technology challenge which should be completed by the end of the spring term.
Have a lovely weekend.
